A small group of concerned parents
lobbied the government for funds and services
and were able to start the Centre in a
local church basement. From these humble
beginnings the Centre has grown into a
first-class facility offering a wide range
of services. A backbone of staff, parents,
the community supportive and volunteers
has continued to support the Centre.
With this support the Centre constructed
its own building complete with a hydrotherapy
pool, toy and book library, playground,
and garage. The building houses offices,
2 preschools, and therapy room for each
department. While the facility is first-class,
the team is still expanding programs and
looking for ways to make current programs
more effective.
The newest development to the facility
and programs is called the Snozelen Room.
This is a completely new concept to the
Centre and is a relatively new idea in
BC. The room stimulates the senses and
enhances learning. The therapy departments
are looking forward to integrating this
new concept into their programs.
With a staff of more than 20, the
CDC offers a wide range of high-quality
services to children with special needs
and their families. These include physiotherapy,
speech and language pathology, occupational
therapy, an integrated preschool, respite/skills
services, infant development program,
and family. Professionals work together
to offer families easy access to all services.
All staff are highly qualified and
each is devoted to working with children
with special needs and their families.
They give the highest degree of respect
and care, which shows in what they are
able to achieve.
The Centre is a team of professionals,
parents, volunteers and a community all
working together with a common vision-
Together we can make the world a better
place.
